For a 10-day period between July and September, VTrans will be closing Route 11 for the rehabilitation of Bridge 41, which crosses the Middle Branch of the Williams River just east of Hilltop Road in Andover.

Carolyn Carlson, project manager for VTrans, in an email said that as of today, Tuesday, July 7,  the bridge closure is scheduled to begin Monday, July 20.  She added that should the dates change, she will inform as soon as possible.

In addition to the 10-day closure, Route 11 will also be reduced to one lane for two weeks before and two weeks after the closure. The project should be finished by Sept. 4, 2015.

The bridge, which was built in 1927 and widened in 1963, does not meet current design standards and, according to VTrans, is in poor condition. The rehabilitation project will replace the existing superstructure with a new, wider bridge and new railings.

The VTrans recommended detour around the construction involves traveling to Ludlow from either Chester or Londonderry. While there are local roads that offer shorter routes between Chester and Londonderry, it is VTrans policy to detour only on state highways.

The date of the closure is left up to Renaud Brothers Inc., the contractor, which must give 14 days notice before closing the road. For a VTrans fact sheet on the $900,000 bridge project click here.
