Vermont Jazz Center Sextet performance to benefit Arts Bring Connection Cuba trip

On Monday, Dec. 28, Main Street Arts will be the site of a benefit performance by the Vermont Jazz Center Sextet for Arts Bring Connection’s trip to Cuba to support its music schools.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the group will play jazz standards and original works at Main Street Arts, 35 Main St. in Saxtons River. Admission is by free will donation.

Created by Main Street Arts founder Mary Hepburn, Arts Bring Connection is a program designed to bring Cubans and Americans together through music and the arts. On Jan. 6, ABC group will be taking 21 artists and musicians of classical, jazz, early music, traditional music and visual arts to four schools and conservatories in the city of Santiago de Cuba.

A filmmaker will document the trip. They will visit and collaborate with students and teachers and bring along hard-to-obtain musical instruments, instrument repair kits and art supplies.

For more information about the concert, contact Jill Newton at 802-869-2960 or email jillnewton42@gmail.com.
