Food and Donation Drive to Benefit Irene Flood Victims

Chester resident Cortney Donohue is organizing the Chester Vermont Food and Donation Drive scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3, to collect, sort and distribute food and household items to help flood victims in the Chester, Cavendish and Ludlow areas of Vermont. The drive will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Post 67, 637 VT 103 S. in Chester.
WHAT’S NEEDED
Items badly needed include bottled water, bread, canned goods, baby supplies, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, coffee, canned food, towels, batteries, flashlights/lanterns, socks, trash bags and cleaning supplies, non-perishable food items, paper goods and toiletries. Volunteers for the event are asked to park at Green Mountain Union High School, across Route 103 from the American Legion.
For those bringing a truck or other vehicle to make deliveries, please park at the Legion for loading. I LOVE VT T-shirts will also be sold on site, with all proceeds benefiting the Red Cross VT/NH.

IF YOU NEED HELP
Donohue says that anyone is eligible to take advantage of the donations, even if they haven’t experienced an immediate economic loss. Many people, she said, will be facing an economic loss in the days and weeks to come since their livelihood is dependent upon electricity, the phone lines and tourism, all which have been severely impacted by the floods.
“If you aren’t comfortable in taking advantage immediately, we’ll be making a drop off at the Chester Family Center,” Donohue said, adding that you can also contact her directly for assistance.
