To the Editor: Jonynas seeks your vote

Chester residents, neighbors and friends:

 My name is Arne Jonynas, and I am running for reelection to the Chester Selectboard for another one-year term. This has been my first year on the board, and it has been an enlightening and learning experience. The workings of town government can be routine at times, and extremely important at others. I strive to always bring fairness, honesty and transparency in my dealings with matters that come before the board.

It has been my honor and pleasure to serve on, and hopefully continue to serve on, a select board of a town that I truly love to live in. I’ve lived in Chester for the past 28 years, and I have always tried to give back to the community that has given my family and me so much. I’ve coached little league and soccer, volunteered for many community and school activities and served on local school boards for many years. I want to continue serving our community as your select person. I will work hard on your behalf, always seeking out ideas and opinions of my constituents.

 There are several qualities and job experiences that I feel make me keenly aware of how a town and its government works. Upon first moving to Vermont, I worked on the Town of Windham’s highway department, giving me first-hand knowledge of what the job of keeping a town running entails. I’ve owned and operated my plumbing and heating business for more than 20 years, and was also an innkeeper in our town for 17 years. I have spent time on the Chester-Andover Elementary School board and the Green Mountain Union High School board.

An important issue that is facing Chester now is the biomass plant purposed by Winstanley in North Springfield that abuts Chester residents. I have been involved with this since it was presented to the board last summer, and I will work my hardest to make sure that Chester’s interests and concerns are addressed. Gathering all of the facts and information are a prime concern before making any decision regarding this far-reaching project. If approved, truck traffic, air quality and many other concerns would need to be examined.
