Memorial contributions for Carly Ferro

Contributions are being accepted in the memory of Carly Ferro, the 17-year-old daughter of long-time Chester-Andover Elementary School teacher Ellen Ferro. She was a senior at Rutland High School.

According to the Burlington Free Press, Carly Ferro was killed in Rutland on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 26 when a speeding car slammed into the parked car that she was attempting to get into. Carly’s father who was waiting in the driver’s seat was injured in the accident, and the young man who was driving the vehicle has been charged with multiple offenses, including vehicular manslaughter. He has pleaded not guilty.

Memorial contributions in Carly Ferro’s name may be made to Vermont Golf Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1612 Station A, Rutland, VT 05701. According to the VGA website, she had been an avid golfer, and as a member of the varsity golf team, lead her Rutland team last spring to the Division I State Championship and earning medalist honors.

Army seeks public comment on sale of Chester Army Reserve Center

The public will have until Oct. 29 to view an Army document in support of selling off 3 acres and the Chester Memorial U.S. Army Reserve Center on Route 11 West.

The Department of the Army is proposing a public auction sale of the property, intended to be transferred for reuse as fleet vehicle storage and maintenance, light industrial or educational/institutional reuse. In compliance with Section 120(h) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, the Army has prepared a draft Finding of Suitability for Transfer (FOST) in support of this project. It is the intent of the Army to sign the FOST to facilitate the property transfer.

 The draft FOST (and support materials) will be available for public review at the Whiting Public Library, 117 Main St., Chester, VT 05143, 802-875-2277. The FOST can also be viewed electronically at here.
