GMUHS senior heads to Poetry Out Loud Competition

Four Windsor County students  — one a senior from Green Mountain Union High — will be heading to the Barre Opera House on Wednesday, March 13 to compete in the 2013 Vermont Poetry Out Loud State Competition. There they will meet 34 other students vying to win the State Championship in the national poetry recitation competition and move on to the National Competition in April.
The four Windsor County students are already champions, having won their individual high school’s competition and thus a spot in the State Competition. These students are:

  •         Katherine McNally (senior), Green Mountain Union High School, Chester
  •         Courtney Atkinson (junior), Black River High School, Ludlow
  •         Eliza Putnam (senior), Sharon Academy, Sharon
  •         Dylan Stuntz (senior), Woodstock Union High School, Woodstock

More than 4,000 Vermont high school students participated in classroom competitions and winners proceeded to school competitions.  The winner of the State Competition will go to the National Competition in Washington, D.C., to compete for titles and money against champions from every state.
