Shelburne Museum presents exhibit on Civil War era textiles

Vermont’s Shelburne Museum will contribute to the sesquicentennial commemoration of the American Civil War (1861-1865) with the special exhibition Homefront and Battlefield: Quilts and Context in the Civil War,  an intriguing and absorbing look at the most divisive period in American history. The American Textile History Museum  produced this traveling exhibition, which will be on display through Jan. 4, 2015 in Shelburne Museum’s new, state-of-the-art Pizzagalli Center for Art and Education, 6000 Shelburne Road, in Shelburne.

Homefront and Battlefield connects deeply moving and insightful personal stories about the war with the broader national context and history and examines how textiles were both an expression of and a motivating force behind American politics and culture during the Civil War.

Funding for Homefront & Battlefield was provided in part by grants from The Coby Foundation, with additional support from the Stockman Family Foundation and Mass Humanities.
