The Chester Telegraph | Sep 29, 2014 | Comments 1
The Chester-Andover Family Center extends its thanks to Abundance Acres, local merchants, the Vermont Food Bank, the Healthy Harvest Network, the School-to-Work Program at Green Mountain Union High Schoo and individuals who donated Community Sustainable Agriculture shares and veggies from their own gardens.
Thanks also to the center’s wonderful group of Food Shelf volunteers who spend many hours each week shopping, transporting, gleaning, processing, lugging, tugging and hoisting big bags of produce.
The Food Shelf’s new Cold Room is loaded with wonderful produce. Offerings include lettuce, tomatoes, chard, kale, peppers, carrots, potatoes, rutabagas, beets, cabbage, squash, basil and other herbs, apples, pie pumpkins and more. We’re waiting for onions. Best drop-off time for produce donations are from 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 10 to 11 a.m. on Fridays.
The center encourages — actually begs — Food Shelf recipients to come by every Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to pick up produce for their family.
Thrift Shop hours are: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, 1 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Satursdays.
Food Shelf hours are 1 to 6 p.m. every Thursday. In addition to food assistance, the center also offers emergency assistance with rent, heating fuel and utility bills. Here’s how to reach the center: 908 VT Route 103 South (P. O. Box 302), Chester, VT 05143, 802-875-3236, email: cafc302@gmail.com.
