Press release | Dec 22, 2014 | Comments 0
Green Mountain Union High School faculty has chosen Casie Walton as their 2014 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award nominee.
Each fall, the entire GMUHS faculty votes to select one student from the senior class who they believe possesses the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism – which the DAR Good Citizens Award recognizes and honors. This faculty nomination gives Casie the opportunity to compete at the state and national levels.
Each state winner receives an award of at least $250 and a state DAR Good Citizens pin and certificate. Each of the eight national division (multi-state groups) winners will receive a cash award of $500. Two national winners will be invited to Washington, D.C., to attend Continental Congress and will be awarded $5,000 scholarships, inscribed silver bowls and certificates.
Casie, the daughter of Julie Parah of Chester and Randy Walton of Bellows Falls, is planning to pursue a PhD in sports psychology. Casie is an avid athlete, was a Varsity soccer midfielder this fall and is currently team captain and assistant coach (for children 10 and younger) of the Connecticut River Valley Stingrays Swimming Team. She is also the president of the Class of 2015 and treasurer of the GMUHS National Honor Society.
Principal Tom Ferenc invited Casie to join the Student Body Leadership Group, where she is able to help plan and lead school wide team building programs.
She is also a contributor for the school newspaper and has participated in the School Recycling Club. Outside of school, Casie has completed more than 80 hours of community service tutoring middle school students in mathematics.
