Wilder Library in Weston awarded grant for graphic books

Graphics collection at Weston

Kerri Maclaury, grant writer and Wilder Library director, celebrates the new graphic books collection.

In late 2014, Wilder Memorial Library in Weston was awarded a $500 grant from Ashgate Publishing.

Throughout 2014, the library found that the demand for graphic novels and graphic nonfiction books from its younger readers exceeded the resources that the library had to provide them.

Graphic book genres, which resemble comic books in how they are laid out and illustrated, are rapidly growing in popularity among today’s youth.

Thanks to Ashgate Publishing’s grant, Wilder Memorial Library was able to create Graphic Novel and Graphic Nonfiction collections in its children’s room.

The books are available to be checked out to all who have a library card. Wilder Memorial Library welcomes Weston and non-Weston residents, of all ages, alike to join. For more information about the services, programs, and resources of Wilder Memorial Library, visit its website www.wildermemoriallibrary.org or come during its regular hours of operation: 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
