Springfield Police Department and the Vermont State Police have obtained an arrest warrant for 30-year-old Gregory Allen Smith of Springfield (pictured right) in the shooting death of Wesley Wing in Springfield on Saturday, April 18, 2015 . The warrant states the charge as second-degree murder with bail set at $500,000.
According to earlier news reports, Wing, 37, stumbled into Jake’s Market on South Street in Springfield after being shot multiple times around 6 p.m. on Saturday. He was transported to Springfield Hospital, then flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H., where he died around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.
On Monday, April 20, Keene, N.H., police found and seized a 2011 black Infinity that police believe Smith was driving after the shooting.
The Vermont investigation team and Keene Police searched a home in Keene to find that Smith had already fled. Police believe that Smith is now driving a white 2004 Buick Rendezvous with New Hampshire plate number 3364095. The vehicle may also have a pink New York Yankees logo on the rear window and a zebra heart decal on the rear passenger side window.
Smith was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, gray and lime green running shoes and a New York Yankees hat with lime green and white lettering. Smith is believed to be armed and should not be approached by the public.
Anyone with information about the shooting or Smith’s location is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at 802-885-2113 or any Vermont State Police barracks or 911.
