July: Summer activities at Book Nook

Throughout July, the Book Nook will host a variety of summer fun activities at the store at 136 Main St. in Ludlow. In addition to author talks and book signing events, there will be Sunday afternoon scrapbooking, Wednesday night adult coloring and mandala creation, and Thursday vinyl listening parties.

Enjoy a Sunday afternoon scrap-booking session held from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 26. Space is limited. To reserve a space email scott@ thebooknookvt.com if you want to attend.

Join the Book Nook for two adult coloring classes taught by Rose Cipriano of RadInspirations

New for this summer, the Book Nook is partnering with RadInspirations to present a series of adult coloring events. RadInspirations’ Rose Cipriano will lead two adult coloring sessions this month. Adult Coloring for Fun and Relaxation on from 6 to 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, Cipriano returns with Creating Mandalas. Space is limited. A series of Vinyl Listening Parties hosted by owner Scott Sterns will kick off Thursday, July 2 and continue each month on the first Thursday. He will pick a theme for the evening and spin records that fit that theme. There might be some books available that go along with the records. He will be happy to discuss turntables, records and anything related to vinyl records and music. July 3: BBQ  & bands at Grounded4Life

avor hot dogs grilled by Grounded4Life’s chefs while two bands play for your enjoyment. There will be balloons for the kids, music and conversation for the adults. Grounded, G4L’s house band, plays at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 3 and Calvary Road comes on at 7:30 p.m. The free event takes place outside the First Baptist Church at 162 Main St., Chester. The event will be held inside in case of rain.

July 4: Okemo celebrates with Great American Party

Okemo Mountain Resort will hold its Great American Party on Saturday, July 4. This event includes a free concert with the Sullivan-Davis-Hanscom Band and the Rick Davis Experience. The festivities will begin at noon with a barbecue and family games and activities.

The Jackson Gore Inn courtyard will be transformed into an all-American Fourth of July party complete with midway games, a 25-foot inflatable waterslide, an obstacle course, a dunk tank, a hot dog eating contest and more. Okemo’s culinary staff will be serving summertime favorites. Partygoers can opt for full-service dining with al fresco seating at Jackson Gore’s Coleman Brook Tavern. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets for seating on the lawn in front of the concert stage where two bands will provide a patriotic soundtrack to the day’s activities.

July 4: Ida Mae Specker & Honest Mistakes at Jake’s

On Saturday, July 4, Ida Mae Specker & The Honest Mistakes celebrate Independence Day at Jake’s Restaurant and Tavern at 5700 Vermont 100 in Londonderry.

The show begins at 1 p.m., immediately after the Londonderry town parade.

Songwriter Faith Wood and bassist Rio Mueller join Ida Mae Specker, third generation fiddle player and a rising force in American folk and roots music. July 6: Fletcher Friends to host tea

The Friends of the Library are hosting a tea at the Fletcher Memorial Library, 88 Main St. in Ludlow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, July 6. It is an opportunity for people to enjoy a light snack while learning about the Friends and provide input on events and activities that the group supports and organizes at the library.Bring your questions, ideas and passions to discuss with the Friends and help Fletcher Memorial Library continue its  tradition as “a jewel within our community.”

The Friends is a volunteer organization that helps support the mission of the library. In 2014, the group raised and donated over $2,500 to that cause. In addition to providing funds for the general needs of the library, it has  provided funding for other services and programs such as Adopt-a-Book for the youth library, Catamount Library Catalog service, reference services from the Vermont Department of Libraries and Green Mountain Consortium allowing access to resources of member libraries.

July 6: Magical Comedy Show at Rock Library

On Monday, July 6 at 5 p.m., the Rockingham Free Public Library welcomes magician Tom Joyce, performing  You are a Hero: A Magical Comedy Show! Joyce will amaze and amuse the audience with mysterious feats during this free program for all ages.

July 8: RPG league announces summer games

The Rockingham Free Public Library RPG League free summer game session will be starting on Wednesday, July 8 through Aug. 12 on consecutive Wednesday evenings from 5 p.m. To 9 p.m. at 65 Westminster St. in Bellows Falls. The RPG League is a free gaming program open to adult gamers of all levels—whether you haven’t played for years, are currently gaming, or just want to try something new.

RPG stands for Role-Playing Game and is interactive storytelling game play. Each player takes on a character and, under the guidance of a Game Master who narrates the story, takes on telling their part of the story through the game’s process of decision-making. One of the most famous games is “Dungeons & Dragons,” which was first published in 1974.

July 8: Chris Kleeman plays at Proctorsville’s Concert on the Green

Vermont-based blues guitarist Chris Kleeman performs at the Cavendish summer music series on the Green in Proctorsville at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8.

This is another in the Wednesday evening public concerts series that Cavendish and the Cavendish Community and Conservation Association produce for all to enjoy. Enjoy a warm summer evening with neighbors and friends in front of the gazebo on the Green. Relax in the grass on your blanket or favorite lawn chair—have a picnic or just listen to the music.
