Okemo resort awards 10 students college scholarships

kemo Mountain Resort has awarded 10 $1,000 scholarships to students who have worked at Okemo or who are the dependents of Okemo employees. Criteria used to select the recipients include academic achievement, co-curricular involvement and the composition of an essay.
Okemo Mountain Resort Employee Scholarships
Timothy Heffernan from East Wallingford. He’s a busser at Epic and will be attending the University of Vermont.
Kian Hutt Vater of Shrewsbury. Vater is a rental shop technician who will be studying biology at Connecticut College.
Michael Kollman of Springfield. He’s a cook at the Roundhouse who will be studying business entrepreneurship and management at Wake Forest University.
Alecia Rokes of Andover. Rokes is a cashier at the Summit cafeteria and will be studying biochemistry at Lehigh University.
Employee Dependent Scholarships
Morgan Kathan of Ludlow is the daughter of Christine Creaser Kathan, who works at the Jackson Gore Inn. She will be studying physical education at Keene State College.
Nicole Shea of Glastonbury, Conn., is the daughter of Allen Shea, who works in Mountain Operations. She will be studying nursing at Castleton University.
Matthew Winters of Stamford, Conn., is the son of Leigh Shemitz, who works in Racing. He will be studying astrophysics at Colgate University.
Caroline Zee of Westfield, N.J., is the daughter of Yuan Zee, who works in Ski + Ride School. She will be majoring in Hispanic studies at Davidson College.
Memorial Scholarships
Kateri Collins of Mt. Holly is a rental shop technician. Collins is the recipient of the John F. Mueller Scholarship. This award was formed by the Okemo Mountain Resort staff in memory of Dr. Mueller and is presented to a student, employed by Okemo or Mount Sunapee Resort who is pursuing a career in medicine. Collins will be attending Stonehill College to study psychology.
Jediah Plumley of Langdon, N.H., a Snowstars instructor, is the recipient of the two-year Thomas Croney Scholarship, given by the employees of Okemo Mountain in memory of Tom Croney, an Okemo employee who set an example for all through his dedication to Okemo and its guests. This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a technical education. Plumley is studying photojournalism at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
