Vermont State Police incident log for September 2015

The Chester Telegraph’s Vermont State Police Log is a sampling of incidents in Andover, Grafton, Londonderry, Weston and adjacent communities. We do not identify individual victims of crimes nor those who have been arrested.

Tuesday, Aug. 4, Londonderry – A woman called the state police to report that she believed that her daughter was staying at her house in Londonderry without her permission. Troopers checked the residence to find that it was secure.

Tuesday, Aug. 4, Londonderry – An 18-year-old Londonderry man gave police a sworn written statement that he had given an iPhone 6s cellphone to a Chester man who had then driven away with it. Police investigating the complaint found that there had been no cell phone, but that the Chester man had driven away with an ounce of marijuana without paying for it.

The Londonderry man was given a citation for giving false information to law enforcement and false swearing and ordered to appear in court on Aug. 22 in Brattleboro.  The Chester man was found to have driven with a criminally suspended license.  He was issued a citation and ordered to appear in court on Aug. 22  in Brattleboro.

Tueday, Aug. 4, Londonderry – A woman reported to state police that she had lost her purse while grocery shopping and wanted to let them know in case it was found.

Wednesday, Aug. 5, Andover – As part of a search for a missing woman, state police contacted a man at his house on Simonsville Road. The trooper noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the house and on investigation found that the man was growing marijuana plants. The man was issued a citation for cultivation of marijuana and the plants were seized. The man became upset and called 911 to report that troopers were stealing his pot. Later the man posted on Facebook that “cops came and took my four babies.”

Saturday, Aug. 8, Londonderry – A Windham, Conn., man was riding his 1997 Kawasaki motorcycle east on Route 11 when a Shelburne, N.H., man, driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata began to pull out of a gas station parking lot, intending to turn left and travel west. The motorcycle struck the driver-side door of the Hyundai and the rider was thrown from the motorcycle, landing several feet from it in the westbound lane. The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to the Springfield Hospital for non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Hyundai was issued a warning for failing to yield the right of way when entering from a private road.

Monday, Aug. 10, Peru – The owner of a store in Peru found that a window screen at the rear of the building had been removed and that the window was open. The store was searched, but nothing was found to be missing. This remains an open case.

Monday, Aug. 10, Peru – A trooper responded to the campground at Hapgood Pond for a noise complaint. The complainant reported that loud music and loud singing were coming from a nearby campsite. State Police approached the campsite and were told that the campers didn’t realize that they were bothering anybody and would stop.

Monday, Aug.10, Grafton – State police checked on a 911 hangup at the Grafton Inn. The front desk clerk said it was an accident in dialing.

Sunday, Aug. 16, Londonderry – State police received a report that a man and a woman were having dinner at a Londonderry restaurant when a man threatened to kill them if they did not leave the bar. The complainant told police that she had at one time worked with the man who made the threat and that the man blamed her for his termination from that job. She did not want to press charges, but wanted the incident on the record.

Sunday, Aug.16, South Londonderry – A Main Street resident told police that her car had been “keyed” either at her home or at the grocery store. She wanted to make a report to get it on the record.

Thursday, Aug. 20, Londonderry – A store in Londonderry reported that cash that was left unattended was missing and that a customer may have had access to it when it was set down. Surveillance photos identified a suspect and, in the meantime, the money was returned to the store. The case remains open.

Monday, Aug. 24, Grafton – State police received two 911 hangups from the Grafton Inn. According to an inn employee, their new phone system has very sensitive keys and dialing long distance numbers preceded by a 9 for an outside line has resulted in several calls to 911. The inn is looking into a solution.

Monday, Aug. 24, Londonderry – The owner of a store and restaurant called the police to complain about a bad check for $32.70. The owner wanted the person charged with theft of services. Police efforts to contact the person who wrote the check have been unsuccessful.

Friday, Aug. 28, Windham – A Windham woman reported to police that her daughter was being bullied by phone and online. The woman did not ask that any action be taken, but did want to put the incident on the record.

Friday, Aug. 28, Londonderry – A business at Magic Mountain notified state police that it had received a bad check. The account was valid, but the check was returned for insufficient funds. The writer of the check was identified and police are waiting to see if the writer makes good on it. This case remains open.

Friday, Aug. 28, Weston – State police responded to a complaint of noise from fireworks. The complainant asked police to make them stop. The trooper went to the source of the noise, and was told that all of the fireworks had been set off and they were done.

Saturday, Aug. 29, Cavendish – State police responded to a report of a break-in and burglary of a residence on Main Street in Cavendish. The burglary is still under investigation and no other information is available.

Sunday, Aug. 30, Peru – At about 11 p.m. state troopers were called to investigate a report of domestic assault in Peru. Police met with the victim, who showed signs of physical injury and provided a sworn statement. Police took a 49-year-old Peru man into custody, charging him with domestic assault. The man was processed and released with conditions and ordered to appear the next day in Bennington County Court to answer the charge.
