It can be tough to breathe wearing a plastic clown nose, but after 100 laps around the Chester green, Townsend Gilbert was still smiling. It was Chester’s first annual “Red Nose Day.” The annual event raises money for children in need and with 76 people coming out to participate throughout the day, the event brought in $1,515 to help less fortunate Chester kids with needs that school and other programs don’t cover. Gilbert and his wife Carol explain – for example – that a kid who wants to run track or playsoccer needs shoes. That expense could be a bar to kids participating and the Gilberts want to help fix that. The local fund will help those kids – on a case by case basis – by making small grants for specific needs.
With the time approaching the 8 p.m. end of the event, friends and family joined Gilbert for lap number 101 and picked up the pace to cross the finish line in front of the Free Range restaurant in stride.
