Six Loose Ladies, the popular fiber arts co-op that recently moved from Cavendish to a Main Street storefront in Chester was “not quite open” last Friday, according to member Suellen Slater,  and business is “already like a weekend day.”

Slater was working the register while still trying to put merchandise up. “We underestimated the number of slatwall hooks we need by about 50 percent,” said Slater, so bags of yarns and other materials lay on the floor underneath the place they will soon be hung.

The new space at 287 Main St. is smaller than the Cavendish store, so “We have to be much more efficient with the space.”

Tighter quarters not withstanding, business was brisk on the day before the store’s formal opening. By  2:30 p.m., Slater said there had already been 20 shoppers since the store opened at 10 that morning. By 2:45, four more had arrived.

While the group welcomes the increase in traffic to the store, it may take some getting used to.

“There was someone here waiting for the store to open at 10,” Slater laughed.
