The first Pennies for the Playground 5K Run + Walk + Kids Fun Run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Chester-Andover Elementary School, 72 Main St. in Chester. All proceeds from the event will go toward building the new playground.

The 5K will start at the school and go around “the loop” – through the Depot, around through the Stone Village, up and over the Church Street hill and back on Main Street. All ages and abilities are welcome to run or walk the 3.1 mile course. The Fun Run will be a quick loop around the school, open to ages 14 and under. The Fun Run starts at 8:45 a.m. and the main event starts at 9 a.m. sharp. Costumes are encouraged for both events.

Secure online registration is open now at www.runsignup.com. The cost is $20 for the 5K and $5 for the Fun Run. A commemorative T-shirt is included with each adult registration received by Oct. 1.

The organization is also looking for volunteers — those early risers to help out on the morning of the event with setup, check in, traffic control and more. Interested in helping out, or have questions about the event? Please call or text (802) 376-5490, or email pennies.for.the.playground@gmail.com.

Back To School – don’t forget your library card

Name the one item that gives you access to nearly everything online and in print, provides personal assistance to help you find what you’re looking for, is free and is one of the best back-to-school supplies? It’s a library card.

A Rockingham Library card provides patrons of any age with a wide range of free resources: books, movies, magazines, downloadable ebooks and audiobooks, free online classes, online homework help, and passes to area parks and museums. The public is encouraged to use the patron computers to research a topic, stay in touch with family, or take an online class. The library also offers free wifi for portable devices. The staff is always available to assist the public.

All residents of Bellows Falls, Rockingham, Saxtons River, Bartonsville and Westminster and any student attending a Windham Northeast Supervisory Union school is eligible for a free library card. The cost for a non-resident card is $30 for six months or $60 for one year. Library cards for children under 17 require a parent or guardian signature.

For more information, stop by the Library at 65 Westminster St. in Bellows Falls, call 802-463-4270 or visit www.rockinghamlibrary.org.
