Archer Mayor kicks off 2016 Vermont Voices

Each November for15 years, Phoenix Books Misty Valley has brought Vermont writers to Chester to share their work.

And as he has since the beginning of Vermont Voices, mystery writer Archer Mayor returns at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, with his latest Joe Gunther tale, Presumption of Guilt.

A 40-year-old skeleton is found encased in a concrete slab at a recently decommissioned nuclear energy site. It becomes a case for the Vermont Bureau of Investigation and its leader, Joe Gunther, since they have the resources to investigate a very cold, missing person’s case that is now reclassified as murder.

But what seems the coldest of cold cases roars back to life when one of the central figures in this mystery is shot to death, right after speaking with Gunther.  The truth behind the old murder still has to the power to kill, and it’s up to Gunther and his team to catch the living and put the dead to rest.

Newfane resident Archer  Mayor is a medical examiner, EMT, lab technician, firefighter, police officer, scholar, editor, researcher, photographer and medical illustrator as well as being a novelist and winner of the New England Booksellers Association award for fiction.

Vermont Voices continues on Sunday, Nov. 13, also at 2 p.m. at the bookstore, with Stephen P. Kiernan presenting his new book, The Hummingbird. On Sunday, Nov. 20, Thomas Christopher Greene will talk about his fifth novel, If I Forget You.
