Ret. Sgt. Carl Bailey, 70, Londonderry native was dedicated to State Police

Mr. Bailey died peacefully at home, with his wife Paulette Picard by his side.
Born and raised in Londonderry, everyone knew Mr. Bailey as “Buck.” He enjoyed his youth on Lowell Lake fishing in the great outdoors with his father and brothers. As well as being an avid downhill skier at Magic Mountain, later in his life he was a downhill ski racer for the Vermont State Police team.
Mr. Bailey graduated from Chester High School in 1965. In 1970, he joined the Vermont State Police and served in Bennington and Windham counties as well as at the VSP outpost in East Dorset.
Mr. Bailey was also the firearms instructor at the State Police Academy and, with his leadership skills, excelled with the VSP Search and Rescue team. Mr. Bailey retired from the VSP Rockingham Troop D Barracks as a sergeant in 1992.
Despite his busy career with the State Police, Mr. Bailey had a passion for and great skills as a carpenter, and built two homes for his family: one in East Dorset in 1974 and one in Londonderry in 1980.
After retirement, Mr. Bailey picked up a busy second career working with his Kubota.
If he wasn’t working the fields or getting wood, he was at the golf courses enjoying the retired life. He and his wife Paulette later decided to take a full-time residency in Florida.
Mr. Bailey was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Paulette and daughters Suzie Bailey Scorse of Rutland, Michele Bailey Blanchette of West Rutland and niece Debbie Bigelow Trombly of Chester.
His is also survived by his brothers, Michael of Londonderry and Dennis of Springfield; his sisters Roxanna Carvage of Chester and Virginia Bailey of Earlton, N.Y.; and his grandchildren Samantha, 26, Ramsay 19, Sage 16, Sara 13 and Shawna 11.
A celebration of Mr. Bailey’s life and career will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Chester Town Hall, 556 Elm St. in Chester.
