Charles Franklin Whitten, 82, Chester native

Charles Franklin Whitten, 82, died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., on April 30, 2023. He was born in Chester, Vermont, on March 7, 1941.

Charles graduated from Chester High School, a star basketball player, and then from the University of Vermont. He was employed by Aetna Insurance and Carnation Co. He then became a real estate investor owning multiple apartments in Western Massachusetts and Vermont.

His last adventure was operating Charlie’s Treasures on Elm St. in Westfield, Mass. He is survived by his ex-wife Susan Whitten of Westfield and special friends Dick Piper and Tom Denardo. Funeral services are private with burial planned later in Cavendish, Vermont. Firtion Adams Funeral Service of Westfield, Mass., is assisting.
