Event cancellations and changes

The Chester Telegraph is compiling a list of events that have been cancelled or changed in some way due to concern over contagious Covid-19 virus. We’ll update the list as information comes in so check back daily.

If you have an event to cancel or change, please send the information to info@chestertelegraph.org and we’ll publish it for you. Please put “Cancellation” in the subject line.

Ongoing cancellations listed below

7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18: Preacher Daryl Martens speaking at the Congregational Church in Chester has been postponed by the Chester Andover Ministerium.

Thursday, March 19: The Londonderry Conservation Commission announces the cancellation of The Pollinators, scheduled  at Walker Farm. We are also canceling all upcoming meetings until further notice.


7 p.m. Friday, March 20: The Weston Film Club‘s screening of Transit at Weston Playhouse at Walker Farm, 705 Main St. in Weston has been cancelled.


Saturday March 21 & 28: The EdgarMay Youth Rock Climbing Clinic at Green Mountain High School in Chester has been cancelled.


2 p.m. Saturday, March 21: The program Early American Architect   at the Springfield Art and Historical Society is cancelled.  It will be rescheduled for later in the year.  For more information, email us at sahs@vermontel.net or call 802-886-7935 (leave a message).  The Society is still open for visitors that day, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.


8  & 10 a.m., Sunday, March 22: There will be two Holy Eucharist services as usual in Willard Hall at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 313 Main St. in Chester.   The 8 a.m. service is without music; the 10 a.m. service is with music and coffee hour.  St. Luke’s will take precautions during worship including receiving the wafer only and not the chalice. Collections will be placed in the plate at a designated spot. The Peace may be exchanged without touching one another. People with coughs or sneezes are asked to cover their mouth and wash hands and, if people are not feeling well, they are asked to stay at home.


7 p.m. Friday, March 27: The Weston Film Club‘s screening of A Man Escaped at Weston Playhouse at Walker Farm, 705 Main St. in Weston has been cancelled.


7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25: Preacher Susan Moody speaking at the Chester Baptist Church in Chester has been postponed by the Chester Andover Ministerium.


Monday April 1: Green Mountain High School 716 Route 103 South in Chester is cancelling the senior lunch.


7 p.m. Wednesday, April 1: Preacher Mat Tape speaking at the Andover Community Church in Andover has been postponed by the Chester Andover Ministerium.


April 10: The Walpole (N.H.) Historical Society is cancelling event on Connecticut, New England’s Great River by Adair Mulligan speaker. A later date will be announced.


Ongoing cancellations

Motel in the Meadow and Gift Shoppe in Chester are closed for at least two weeks.


Beginning Monday, March 16 and continuing until this crisis winds down, Black River Good Neighbor Services, 37B Main St. in Ludlow, will only take requests for food and assistance by telephone.  Call (802) 228-3663 and talk to Audrey or Krey. The Thrift Shops will be closed.


Wednesday, March 18-Thursday, April 30: Six Loose Ladies Yarn and Fiber at 278 Main St. in Chester has decided to suspend our Wednesday Knit Morning, Thursday Knit Knite and second Sunday Odd Bobbins Spinners through the end of April, when we will reassess. The shop will be open during our regular business hours.


Through Tuesday, March 31: The Vermont Institute of Natural Science in Quechee will be closed. We will take this opportunity to deep clean the facility and to complete the final construction of the VINS Forest Canopy Walkway spiral staircase on the Tree House. VINS will re-open the Nature Center on Sunday, March 22, to provide our community with a much-needed opportunity to get outdoors and close to nature, during this stressful time. All Indoor Raptor Programs are canceled until the end of March.Field Trip programs are suspended until at least Monday, March 30.  The Center for Wild Bird Rehabilitation will continue to receive injured birds from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Call to alert staff that you are bringing an injured bird at (802) 359-5000 Ext. 212 or after hours Ext. 510.  VINS will be canceling or postponing large events of 250+ people through the end of March. Decisions about the Owl Festival (April 18 – 19, 2020) will be made the week of March 16.


Through Monday, April 6: Whiting Library, 117 Main St. in Chester will be closed. We will not be charging overdue fees during this period.


Now through May 3: Northern Stage in White River Junction will suspend all public programming now through May 3. The company hopes to be able to present currently programmed productions of Frozen JR. and Million Dollar Quartet once public safety advisories have determined it is safe to do so. 

Previous Cancelled Events

7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14: The performance of Upstate at Weston Playhouse at Walker Farm, 705 Main St. in Weston has been cancelled.


1 p.m. Sunday, March 15: The Game of Thrones Fandom Feast at the Cavendish Fletcher Community Library in Proctorsville has been postponed until the threat from the coronavirus is abated.


Sunday, March 15: The Grafton Historical Society has postponed the St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. We apologize for any inconvenience but in light of Grafton Cares suspending all their meals at this time we feel it is wise to also cancel.


6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 16: The Chester Planning Commission  at Town Hall, 556 Elm St. , has been cancelled.


7:30 p.m. Monday, March 16:  The climate forum with gubernatorial candidates Rebecca Holcombe and Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman will be moved online in light of current public health concerns around coronavirus. It was originally to be held at the Wilburton Inn in Manchester.  To access this Zoom Meeting:
