Vermont State Police Incident Log – July 2015

VSP logo incident reportThe Chester Telegraph’s Vermont State Police Log is a sampling of incidents in Andover, Grafton, Londonderry, Weston and adjacent communities. We do not identify individual victims of crimes nor those who have been arrested.

Saturday, July 4, Jaquith Road, Weston – A resident reported that someone had attempted to enter the garage through the door but was not successful. A window was open however, and an ax and a hatchet were missing. The incident remains open.

Saturday, July 4, Horsenail Hill Road, Windham – Police received a call from someone who said that all terrain vehicles were being operated on the road. The caller said that the vehicles were being driven recklessly and was concerned for the safety of the operators. A trooper responded, but there were no ATVs operating at the time.

Saturday, July 4, Route 11, Peru – A resident reported that he left the house for work on the previous day and returned home about 10 p.m. The next morning he noticed that a firearm had been stolen from the place where he normally stored it.

Saturday, July 4, Andover Hill Road, Andover – A homeowner reported that between June 17 and July 2 someone had broken into an unattached garage and stolen a 10-year-old, red Murray riding lawn mower. The owner estimated its value at $500.

Tuesday, July 7, Ridge Road, Landgrove – A homeowner called to report hearing gunshots. Police called back to ask if it could be fireworks. The complainant said that – being unfamiliar with guns – it could be fireworks. During the call, what sounded like fireworks could be heard. The complainant did not mind fireworks, but was worried about being safe if guns were being fired around the residence. A trooper went by later and there were no fireworks or gunshots at that time.

Tuesday, July 7, Little Pond Road, Londonderry – The owner of several camp buildings called police to report that someone had broken into seven cabins, damaging the doors. The owner told police that the cabins had not been in use for about 30 years. It appeared that burglars had been trying to steal copper pipes, but since the pipes were not made of copper, they took lumber instead.

Thursday, July 9, Townshend Road, Grafton – The property manager for a residence reported that when driving past a house, he noticed a rug lying outside. The out of state homeowners were last at the property in April. Checking the house, the property manager found that there were antique firearms missing.

Friday, July 10, Main Street, South Londonderry – The complainant reported to police that a garage belonging to his father had been broken into. Someone had broken a window to enter the garage, which has been closed up for 10 years. The complainant said he did not see anything missing and that this must have been done between July 5 and July 11.

Friday, July 10, Lawrence Hill Road and Main Street, Weston – A resident reported a person lying by the side of the road with a liquor bottle. A rescue unit was dispatched but when they arrived the person was gone. Rescue personnel did find a cell phone on the scene and police used the phone to contact someone who knew the owner. The following day, the owner came to the Rockingham Barracks to retrieve the phone.

Friday, July 10, Route 11 and Forest Mountain Road, Peru – State Police responded to the scene of a three-car crash that occurred when one car slowed to make a legal turn, the car following it also slowed and the third car rear-ended the second. The driver of the third car was cited for following too closely.

Sunday, July 12, Highland View Road, Weston – Three mountain bikes were reported stolen. This is an active investigation, the report contained no narrative of the incident.

Tuesday, July 21, Beech Road, Londonderry – There was a report of a theft. This is an active case, the report contained no narrative of the incident.

Thursday, July 23, Beech Road, Londonderry — Three reports including a burglary with breaking and entering, possession of regulated drugs and a vehicle stop and search. This is an active case, no other information was available.

Sunday, July 26, Glebe View Lane, Londonderry – There was a report of a theft. This is an active case, the report contains no narrative of the incident.

Tuesday, July 28, Rte 11 and Middletown Road, Andover – Andover resident Lynn Perry was reported missing from her home at about 7 a.m. The 56-year-old woman suffered from early onset Alzheimer’s disease and wandered away from home sometime after midnight. Aided by about 200 searchers from several state and local agencies as well as civilian search and rescue organizations, the Vermont State Police conducted a four- day search ranging over a large area of dense, hilly forest. The active search was concluded on July 31 with ongoing police patrols and a continuing investigation. On Aug. 5, Vermont State Police Capt. Ray Keefe reported that three cadaver dogs would be used in a day-long search.  Keefe told The Telegraph that a meeting would be held on Friday Aug. 14 to coordinate a recovery search sometime in the near future.

Thursday, July 30, Route 100 and Smith Haven Lane, Londonderry – A lime green 2014 Artic Cat Wild Cat two seat ATV was stolen from the premises. Surveillance footage showed someone dragging the ATV from the property at around 2 a.m. Wednesday, July 15. The ATV has damage from a prior accident, including scarring to the roll cage and damage to the plastic above the right rear tire.

Thursday, July 30, Hapgood Pond Road, Peru – A complainant reported that a backpack containing clothing and a phone had just been stolen while it was unattended. Others in the area at about that time noticed a dark red car with New York plates driving around. The occupants of the car – three males and one female in their early 20s – were yelling and waving a swimsuit. The incident remains open.
