Surgeons earn orthopaedic certifications; hospital golf outing raises funds for medical equipment

Springfield Hospital is congratulating Dr. Kevin Dwyer on his certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and Dr. David Muller on his maintenance of certification by the ABOS.
Orthopaedics is a broad-based medical and surgical specialty dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. These include pediatric orthopaedics, sports medicine, joint replacement and surgery for arthritis, foot and ankle surgery, hand surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, spine surgery, trauma and fracture care, musculoskeletal oncology, rehabilitation and arthroscopic surgery.
Certification by the ABOS, an independent, private and voluntary nonprofit, means that the orthopaedic surgeon has met the its specific educational, evaluation and examination requirements.
Maintenance of certification is a 10-year process following initial certification that requires ongoing continuing medical education, undergoing a stringent peer review process to make certain that they are respected by their peers and practicing ethical orthopaedic surgery, and taking and passing a written or oral examination.
Kevin Dwyer, M.D., is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Dwyer joined Springfield Hospital in 2013.
David Muller, M.D., is a graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Fletcher Allen Health Center in Burlington, and a Hand Fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sidney, Australia. Muller was originally certified by ABOS in 1997 and has been affiliated with Springfield Hospital since 1994.

Springfield Hospital golf outing raises funds for medical equipment
The 15th annual Springfield Hospital Challenge at Okemo Valley Golf Club on Thursday, Sept. 17, raised funds for the purchase of specialty medical equipment.
Twenty-six foursomes of golfers competed for team and individual awards and raffle prizes and 35 organizations underwrote the tournament, which included a box lunch, dinner buffet, complimentary refreshments on the course, and a gift to every golfer of a golf bag cooler.
Tournament sponsors were Black River Produce, Coverys, Hackett Valine & MacDonald, IPG Employee Benefit Specialists, Kinney Drugs Foundation, Rick Marasa, MD, Springfield Auto Mart, and Springfield Printing Corp.
