152 participate in Edgar May Rec Center Thanksgiving 5k

Great weather meant a great turnout for the 3rd annual Edgar May Health and Recreation Center’s Thanksgiving Day 5k .

With a race time temperature of 40 degrees, 152 participants kicked off their Thanksgiving Day in a healthy and active way. Walkers and runners headed out on a 3.1 mile course that started at Springfield Hospital and went out to Springfield High School, and then back again.

The top overall finisher was Kell Giffin of Shrewsbury with a time of 17:26. The top female finisher was Crystal Morey of Bellows Falls with a time of 21:56. Others noted were the youngest participant, 7-year-old, Kenzie Wescott of Weathersfield and the person who traveled the farthest to participate: Andrew Azman from Geneva, Switzerland. The event also recognized the family with the most amount of participants: the Spilsbury/Spicer family of Charlestown, N.H., and Connecticut. You can find the complete results here.

This year the race was timed by Springfield High School’s Cross Country Team, which was a beneficiary of a portion of the funds raised by the race.
