Vermont State Police are asking drivers to avoid U.S. Route 4 between Pico Peak and the intersection of Routes 4 and 100 as they investigate a fatal crash that occurred this afternoon.According to police, the accident involved a tractor-trailer and a sport utility vehicle and that, of the seven occupants between the two vehicles, three are confirmed dead. In a press release, Rutland Barracks Commander Lt. Chuck Cacciatore noted that the on-going investigation would keep the roadway closed “for quite a few hours, late into the evening and potentially the early morning hours of” Wednesday.
State police are urging drivers who need to travel in that area to take U.S. Route 7 south to Vermont 103 onto Vermont 100 in Ludlow, to complete the “circle” around the closed portion of Route 4. Check out the state’s 511 accident map for up-to-the-hour information.
