Editor’s Note: The Vermont State Police incident report is a sampling of incidents directly from Vermont State Police. We do not identify individual victims of crimes nor those who have been arrested.
Tuesday, Dec. 1, Regional – State police started the month with a bang – or several bangs – as rain falling on frozen roads accounted for a host of accidents, several resulting in injuries. The volume of calls was sufficient to warrant bringing in the night shift early in the afternoon.
Wednesday, Dec. 2, Londonderry – The auto parts store on Main Street reported that someone had forced open a side door to get into the building and had taken an undisclosed amount of cash. This is an open case.
Wednesday, Dec. 2, Londonderry – The Congregational Church on Main Street – which was not locked – was entered by someone who then forced a door into the pastor’s office. Nothing was taken according to the report. This is also an open case.
Saturday, Dec. 5, Chester – Police received reports of a car parked at the intersection of Andover Road and Route 11 in Chester. According to the reports, the car was parked by the side of the road with no one around it and it was still running. The complaints were turned over to the Chester Police. (See Chester Police Log.)
Tuesday, Dec. 8, Andover – A resident complained that a “self-propelled grass cutter” and two gas cans were stolen from outside the buildings.
Sunday, Dec. 13, Grafton – A property owner complained that there had been a theft from a Middletown Road house that has been vacant since the mother’s death a number of years ago. The complainant speculated that it may have been done by disgruntled hunters who were denied access to the property, but the owner was not able to identify any suspects.
Tuesday, Dec. 15, Chester – On Monday, Dec. 14 a man entered the Cavendish General Store and attempted to hold up the store at knife-point. The store owner attacked the robber with a machete and the man fled with the cash register, which he later dropped while escaping. State police were able to identify a suspect as Joshua Corliss, 33, of Springfield. Corliss turned himself into Chester Police on the night of Dec. 15. (see Chester Police Log) Corliss was charged with assault and robbery and aggravated assault. There was also an arrest warrant against Corliss for failing to appear in Windsor Court in October 2015.
Friday, Dec. 18, Saxtons River – A Pleasant Street resident reported the theft a political yard sign within the preceding 24 hours. There were no suspects.
Sunday, Dec. 27, Peru – Three people were sent to Springfield Hospital with injuries that resulted when a 24-year-old Johnson, Vt., traveling north on South Road in a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz ran a stop sign at Route 11, hitting a 2015 Porsche Cayenne being driven by a Landgrove man. Both cars were knocked off the road by the impact. Two men in the Cruz and a passenger in the Porsche were transported to the hospital. The driver of the Cruz was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign.
Monday, Dec. 28, Londonderry – An employee at Magic Mountain told police that during a time when there was no skiing on the mountain, someone broke into her car, which was parked near the kitchen door. The person had rummaged through the car and taken cash.
Monday, Dec. 28, South Londonderry – Police responded to a report that an Arctic Cat snowmobile and an ATV with a combined value of $2,200 had been stolen from Brown Enterprises on Route 1oo. The vehicles had been left at the business to be repaired.
