The morning started off with a parade through the town. It was lead by Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy and U.S Rep. Peter Welch, both frequenters of the playhouse. The WPTC Young Company, or YoCo, rode by on a float, throwing candies to the children. Other parts of the Weston community also marched down the street, including the Weston Women’s Club and The Vermont Country Store which is celebrating its 70th this year.
Following the parade, everyone gathered on the green to listen as Leahy, Welch, Lyman Orton of the Vermont Country Store, and Playhouse Producing Director Steve Stettler all rejoiced in the occasion. Stettler wished the community a very happy birthday saying it was as much theirs as it was the playhouse’s.
A three tier cake was served up with ice cream as people enjoyed the music and games on the green.
Later that evening Weston Playhouse alumni performed a concert and historical narrative about the playhouse to a full house. Following the show, an open mic and a party topped off the day’s birthday celebration.
