Police Log for Aug. 22 – Sept. 13, 2012

Editor’s Note: The Chester Telegraph Police Log takes incidents directly from Chester Police reports. We do not identify individual victims of crimes nor those who have been arrested.

Sunday, Aug. 18, 1:26 p.m.

A complainant told of a possible impaired driver along Route 103 North. The driver was located. She is elderly and said that she doesn’t drive much and had driven from Brattleboro and was tired.

Sunday, Aug. 18, 5:24 p.m.

A silver Volvo was reported being operated in an erratic manner, making turns that were too wide and crossing the center line on two occasions, almost causing a head-on accident. The car was located parked at Mountain Man shops on Route 103 South and the woman was walking her dog. The woman, who is from Bellows Falls, laughed and stated that the dog had jumped into her lap, causing the erratic driving. Police advised the woman of the risks to public safety and that it should be taken seriously.

Thursday, Aug. 22, 4:28 p.m.

A parent from Andover complained that some young boys at the Lovers Lane skatepark were harassing his 12-year-old daughter. He related that his daughter said they wanted to be friends with her and offered her cocaine. The girl’s mother had followed the boys to the Jiffy Mart. Police interviewed the boys, who are ages 14 to 16, and determined that they did not threaten or proposition her nor did they offer cocaine to her. But they did tease her and picked on her enough to scare her. The boys’ parents were also spoken to.

Thursday, Aug. 29, 4:11 p.m.

Police were told that several youths were around the Green smoking. Officer checked the area, out back of the inn, at School Street. Youths could not be located.

Friday, Aug. 30, 7:19 a.m.

Complainant in the Mountain View community said that someone had opened the driver’s side door of her car. A handprint was on the door and on the driver’s side rear door in the dew. No items were taken.

Friday, Aug. 30, 5:35 p.m.

A minor car accident happened along Church Street between a Toyota Corolla and a Subaru Impreza.

Friday, Aug. 30, 7:52 p.m.

Complainant said a group of people emerged running from the woods off Pleasant Street after several gunshots were heard in the distance.

Saturday, Aug. 31, 4:26

A truck lost a wheel/tire and came to rest along Route 10 North near Batchelder’s repair shop.

Thursday, Sept. 5, 7:57 p.m.

A New York driver of a 2006 Chevy Tahoe hit a moose on Route 11 East near Green Mountain Turnpike.

Saturday, Sept. 7, 4:15 p.m.

A minor two-car rear-end crash on Main Street.

Saturday, Sept. 7, 6:43 p.m.

Complainant in Flamstead said neighbor was firing a shotgun. Officer explained that the law doesn’t stop a resident from shooting firearms on their own property and the noise ordinance doesn’t apply since it was still daylight.

Sunday, Sept. 8

8:22 p.m.: Lovers Lane tree downed by storm
10:54 p.m.: Quarry Road tree tangled in power lines.

Thursday, Sept. 12, 11:44 a.m.

A mother along Route 10 complained that a horse had bitten her 7-month-old son on the left thigh. It had not broken the skin. There are no laws governing horse bites. This is a civil matter.

Thursday, Sept. 12, 4:52 p.m.

A driver along Route 103 South was rear-ended as she attempt to turn onto Breezy Lane.

Friday, Sept. 13, 1:25 p.m.

A woman went off the road along Route 10 at an S-curve to avoid an oncoming vehicle. Driver had an injured arm and leg.
