 Whiting Library holds Food for Fines Benefit

The Whiting Library will hold a Food for Fines Benefit to aid the Chester/Andover Family Center during regular library hours, Monday Feb. 11 through Saturday, Feb. 23. The library, located at 117 Main St. in Chester, will collect donations of non-perishable foods in payment for current overdue book fines. For each can or dry good donated at the Circulation Desk, one fine will be forgiven.
Donations of expired, damaged or opened good or those unfit for consumption will not be accepted. A donation is good for overdue fines only and will not be accepted for lost, damaged or destroyed items.
Library hours are 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday.

People’s Bank donates $500 to Chester-Andover Family Center

People’s United Bank announced today that they have made a $500 donation to the Chester-Andover Family Center The funding will be used to provide more then 60 monthly food packages to families and individuals in need. In addition, the funding will support programs that provide financial assistance for utilities, rent and transportation.

“We are pleased to provide this donation to the Chester-Andover Family Center,” said Barb LeMire, financial service manager and market manager for People’s United Bank. “The Chester-Andover Family Center is a great resource in our community for those in need. The Center provides a hand up, rather than a hand out. They are an organization that helps people help themselves and we are fortunate to have them in our community.”

Noye’s Fludde at Weston Playhouse

The Opera Theatre of Weston will present its new production of Noye’s Fludde (Noah’s Flood) for two performances at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 and Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Weston Playhouse, 703 Main St. in Weston.

The one-act opera by Benjamin Britten relates the well-known biblical tale in song and dance.
The performances are part of the Opera Theatre of Weston’s 13th season presenting its Opera for Kids program. Many of the chorus members, actors, and orchestra are area children working along side adults from professional theater troupes, which include Houston Grand Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, and the Weston Playhouse Theatre Co.
